On arrival, patients will initially be asked to fill out a medical history form. This gives us an idea of any past injuries that may be related to your injury, any conditions that may be inherited or any contraindications, which may prevent certain treatments from being advisable.
A subjective assessment will then take place. This gives the practitioner an initial impression of the nature of the injury and potential diagnoses.
Following this, an objective assessment is performed. A series of tests are performed in order to eradicate any differential diagnosis and determine the correct diagnosis.
An appropriate treatment plan is then designed. Certain techniques such as massage, trigger points, frictions, electrotherapy, mobilisations and stretches may be used.
You may be given a number of specific exercises designed to be carried out at home. These may be given to improves the strength of a particular structure, reduce any inflammation and swelling or to rectify any incorrect movement patterns that may predispose you to injury.
Please wear or bring appropriate clothing to your appointment. Patients may be required to wear shorts. Depending on the area being treated it may be necessary to remove some clothing.
